Those of you who follow the doings of CA Technologies know that we recently wrapped up a highlight successful CA World in Las Vegas, where we got to mingle with 5,000+ customers and partners and discuss what it takes for IT to act at the speed of business.
Not surprisingly, Consumer Driven IT (and its earlier incarnation the consumerization of IT), received a lot of coverage and discussion and I have included links to some great information below. I think the most remarkable thing that is evident is the breadth of IT solution areas that Consumer Driven IT impacts. Indeed, there is hardly an area of IT that will not in some way have to be transformed to take advantage of the opportunities brought by this mega-trend. From context-aware security to comprehensive service assurance across the IT supply chain to tools that enable collaboration and innovation in project development, IT needs to consider their entire service portfolio as they transform their organization. A little daunting? Perhaps, but as our recent IDC Research found, the payoffs can be huge!
Here's what else was in the Consumer Driven IT news the last few weeks:
November CIO Debate - The Consumerization of IT: TWO Top CIO's follow contrasting strategies, Avaya via http://www.cio.com/ - Interactive topics via video polling on what each CIO has to say Bill Martin (Royal Caribbean Cruises) versus Rick Roy (CUNA Mutual Group).
November 30: Enterprise Shifts to Mobile-Only Workforce, Nathan Eddy via eWeek - Results from a Broadsoft survey of IT decision-makers reveals the startling fact that 44 percent of enterprises surveyed have at least one-quarter of their workforce operating solely using a mobile phone. Any company not developing mobile-friendly versions of their website beware!
November 29: Has Facebook become the General Electric of the Social Web?, Matthew Ingram via Gigaom - Consumer driven IT includes the blurring of our personal and professional lives, but this takes it even further: in Facebook's view your online identity will merge with your "authentic identity". Will Facebook become a social utility like the social web's equivalent of a power company?
The real cloud revolution is all about consumerization - Jerome Lecat via Venture Beat - Chicken or the egg? Most believe that the cloud is enabling the consumerization of IT, but Jerome posits that the consumerization of IT is the real revolution and it is the wind pushing the cloud.
2012 Prediction: DynamicOps: Consumerization Accelerates Cloud Computing Changes in 2012 by Leslie Muller via VMBlog - Consumerization becomes the driving theme behind cloud computing.
November 22: Consumerization of IT: U.S. firms lag in global trend, Brian Watson via CIO Insight - Recent Accenture study shows US and Western Europe lags behind developing countries in the adoption of consumerization of IT.
