IDUG Prague 2011; Cowboys & Mainframes
Sunday Nov 13th. Like every year, it's the day prior to IDUG. And like every year, we've organized the CA User Day.
More than 80 CA Technologies DB2 Tools users from across EMEA (and many others who are interested to listen to the latest developments in our products) are packed in a room to listen to speakers from CA and user who are sharing their experiences.
Sometimes, it looks like time stood still, many of the same faces I see every year, and all of us a year older. But this year, we also had 10 people over from our Prague Development Center. A wonderful opportunity for those young DB2 & IMS tools developers to talk to real customers who work with their products every day. But it is also important for the rest of the CA technologies folks to see that we are on the right track. That we are adressing todays challenges and problems. And there are many. The constant fight to keep things on the mainframe, the ever increasing workload and the constant pressure to save money and "do more with less"..
Networking is a very important component of conferences like IDUG. And I have to say, it is one of the most open, friendly and interactive conferences I know. And it nit only gives US very valuable feedback, our customers also benefit from this. Business cards are exchanged and problems are discussed and often solved.
What better way to end a day like this with a get-together at Cowboys. Cowboys? In Prague? Don't ask.. It's not the name you would expect in Prage, but the restaurant was a perfect place to not only discuss DB2 related issues, but also many other IT- and non-IT related topics. Everybody is now ready for IDUG. 4 days packed with news, updates, user-experiences and other sessions a serious DBA cannot do without. Join us at the CA booth if you can. We have live demo's, a new DB2 V10 reference Guide and much more. To make your life a bit easier, and more fun...
