Is the Role of the PMO Evolving or Disappearing?
June 18 2012, 03:59 PM
I am in London this week, and the topic of the evolving organizational constructs of the Project Management Office or PMO has already been raised several times. In speaking with one financial organization I learned that they have effectively moved the role of the PMO to one of guidance - providing instruction and coaching. Another organization in the manufacturing sector has moved their IT PMO into the Enterprise PMO and the group now acts as an intermediary between business demand and execution.
As mentioned in my recent blog "Is your governance a 1939 movie?", the roles within the PMO and IT are rapidly transforming, and if you are part of a PMO or delivering project capabilities you need to consider your organizational constructs. Some of my thoughts are shared in a recent video that I shot after attending the Gartner PPM conference in Washington D.C. I encourage you take a look and share your thoughts.
