ISACA Governance, Risk and Compliance Conference, Orlando, Florida

Given the present global financial markets meltdown, I thought it salient to draw your attention to the ISACA Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Conference to be held Oct. 8-10 in Orlando, Florida.

There are many interesting sessions at the event, including mine on "Five Traps for the IT Governance Professionals."  I'll be providing practical advice on how to balance GRC.  I'll detail the five common mistakes in delivering IT governance that I have observed in my travels-and of course, how to avoid them.

I'll also answer these questions:

  • What is the appropriate level of IT governance and how to define it
  • Why measurement is important and how to do it
  • Who owns IT governance and how to manage it

The keynote address should be fascinating as well. Rear Admiral Stephen A. Turcotte US Navy (Ret.) will share his experience as an accident investigator, an emergency preparedness coordinator and disaster relief logician. He will discuss the human elements of systems and controls, as well as the human aspects of governance, performance and compliance. He will explain how leadership is critical in the risk management process, and how GRC and control issues of a major crisis relate to the mundane realities of day-to-day business.  I'm looking forward to gaining a new perspective on GRC.

If you're attending the conference, please introduce yourself--I'm always especially keen on meeting readers of my blog.
