RSA Conference - First Impressions

I always enjoy coming to the RSA conference because it helps to see what the latest trends are in info security.  Each year I attend could be called "the year of <insert current buzzword>."  About five years ago, it was the "year of identity."  The next year was "the year of compliance."

As I walked around the show floor this year, it seems the dominant theme is cloud security.  There are a growing set of vendors who claim to be exclusively focused on the cloud.   I haven't had time yet to talk to many of them to see how much "meat" is behind the claims, but it is interesting to see the rush each year to jump on the latest bandwagon.

Another mildly interesting thing I noticed is the large number of authentication vendors.  One would have thought that this was a mostly-solved problem, but it appears that authentication vendors keep jumping into the fray.  (And, as an aside, is there a rule somewhere that says that each authentication vendor much start their company name with "auth"?)  I hope to be able to talk to some of them today.  There's Authentify, Authernative, and my own personal favorite, CA Technologies.

With RSA in full swing, please visit this blog often over the next few days. My colleagues and I will be posting quite a bit about the happenings at the conference.
