In June, ISACA published a document titled: "
Building the Business Case for CobiT® and Val IT: Executive Briefing." This document explores and demonstrates the business value of CobiT and Val IT.
The purpose of this research is to examine how IT and business management good practices (based on CobiT® 4.1 and Val IT) enable an enterprise's capabilities, and contribute towards meeting its business goals. The research model is based on the previously developed cascade""business goals, IT goals and IT process goals""and the Val IT business case structure of technical, operational and business capabilities and business benefits.
The enormous amount of data resulting from this research offers many analysis opportunities and, not only clarifies the relationship between enterprise governance of IT and business performance, but also provides a good indication of the current implementation status of the CobiT and Val IT frameworks within enterprises of different size, industry segment and geographic location.
A couple of interesting conclusions:
- IT goals contributing most to the achievement of general business goals involve efficient cost management and the capability of the IT organization to deal with a changing environment.
- Operational and support-oriented IT processes contribute most to the achievement of IT compliance and security-specific IT goals.
