Last month I wrote Why Can’t We All Just Get Along? about the issues between IT and facilities that lead to inaction in addressing some low hanging fruit as it pertains to energy reductions and cost savings.
In a recent Forbes article titled The CIO and CFO Disconnect, Kenneth Brill makes a good case that this should be on the CFO’s agenda to address.
Ironically, I had that very conversation with an organization today where the CIO is being pressured by the CFO to gain more visibility into the true costs in running the data center.
Additionally, on Forrester’s webcast today they believed that the relationship between IT and facilities is going to improve. If so this will lead to energy consumption and cost savings within the data center and across the enterprise.
Time will tell, but it looks to me like the tide is starting to turn on this one. Frankly, it makes too much sense for organizations not to act.
