2009 seems to be the year of 2.0. Of course, CA announced Mainframe 2.0 this past May. Well, now it seems that http://trexxers.com/ 2.0 is out there too!

As you may recall from my blog posting last December 9 (see http://community.ca.com/blogs/execio/archive/2008/12/09/informal-mainframers.aspx), there's an informal mainframe community that has sprung up called TREXXERS.com. Well, apparently there were a few details that needed to be ironed out to ensure they were running as smoothly as possible, so they were offline for a little while.

As it turns out, however, that's all well behind them now, and they're up, running, and fully independent (they even have a board of directors made of people from a number of different organizations).

I just checked it out, and the amount of interesting (to mainframers, at least) information there appears to be significant, and rapidly growing.

So, check it out, and maybe add something yourself as well. While you're at it, let me know what you think about it.

Big News!

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you'll know that it's been a month and a half since I last blogged, and you've probably been wondering where I went. Well, I can now tell you.

I'm on the SHARE Board!!!

I had to keep this hush-hush until it was official, but I just talked with Pam Taylor, president of SHARE, and she gave me permission to blog about it.

My journey began with being invited to run in the Denver election on the SHARE slate of candidates, in which a pair of outstanding and very experienced people were elected to the Board as Directors. In this case, I didn't end up being one of the two elected Board members, but Pam approached me and asked if I'd be willing to take an appointed position that she wanted to create to add a new function to SHARE.

So, I accepted the role of Deputy Director with the brand new portfolio of Community Development, which means that I get to work with Enterprise IT organizations (user groups and others as well) to build the mainframe and large enterprise IT community.

Over the next year, I'll be learning and defining what that means, as CA supports me in supporting SHARE.

Of course, I'll continue to wear my CA hat as well, and I'm optimistic that my two roles will complement each other.

So, while this blog will continue to reflect my perspective as a member of the CA Mainframe Business Unit, you can expect my occasional observations about SHARE to become a bit more frequent.

Stay tuned for more information - including a press release, likely some time next week, with the details.

And, of course, stay tuned for more frequent blogs from me. I'm back, and I'm excited!
