A Needle's Eye View

You know you're a mainframer if you remember what "SPOOL" stands for (Simultaneous Peripheral Operations On-Line). Of course, young mainframers, such as REXX Jr., may be forgiven if their understanding of terms such as "SPOOL Pack" and "On-Line" are more Internet-relevant than mainframe-aware.

After all, it's minor miscommunications such as in the below cartoon that lead to those indispensable opportunities to mentor the next generation about the culture and language of the mainframe (see http://community.ca.com/blogs/execio/archive/2008/11/24/how-to-talk-like-a-mainframer.aspx).
